13 Man Kings Fought Couragesly But Simply Could Not Keep Up With Edinburgh

Edinburgh built on last weekend’s 1872 Cup success with a nine-try win over 13-man Isuzu Southern Kings (61-13), who fought courageously on their first Guinness PRO14 appearance since November.

Pieter Scholtz’s early red card undermined Kings’ positive start, and despite tries from Erich Cronje and JT Jackson, home scores from Mike Willemse, Duhan van der Merwe, Matt Scott, James Johnstone, Eroni Sau, Dave Cherry, Charlie Shiel, Mark Bennett and a penalty try sealed victory for the hosts.

Edinburgh has now been beaten just once in nine matches in all competitions and is unbeaten in the 2019/20 season at BT Murrayfield. With this win, they leapfrog the Scarlets at the top of Conference B, while defeat leaves the Kings with just one win to their name in 2019/20.

The yellow card to Ashton Fortuin in the 66th minute which lead to a penalty try proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back. Four tries in the last twelve minutes of play gave Edinburgh the win after leading 19-13 at half time.
